When we begin living a life following Jesus Christ, we expect for God to be there in ALL aspects of our lives. Our family, work, health, finances, even our hobbies. We want Him to bless us, keep us safe and even prosper us through it all. But let’s pause and consider what our days consist of.
Part of what I pray daily is to ask God to fill my life, my home and everywhere I go with the Holy Spirit. I ask for a hedge of protection to be built around me and my family. I ask for Him to send his angel armies before, behind and beside me and those I love and to straighten any crooked path. I ask for wisdom to see what belongs in my life and what doesn’t. And I petition Him to help me find balance and to let my life to be a blessing to others in the process. And above all else, I pray for HIS will to be done.
With that in mind, I have learned to consider a few things. Are my actions readily welcoming God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit into my space? Is what I am reading, watching on TV, the music I am listening to or what I am clicking on when I am on the computer/phone chasing Him off? I think about watching movies for example, if they are filled with sex, violence and profanity, do I actually think the Holy Spirit is dwelling in that place with me? (1 John 2:15-17, James 4:4) If I am sitting in traffic and wanting to road rage on any level, do I think He is still going to hang out with me in the car? Has it really ever been that serious anyways? If there is gossip, obscenity or dirty joking around us - are we a part of it in any way? (Ephesians 5:4)
Fact of the matter is, yes God is bigger than any of that and He can choose to remain anywhere or enter any place to save someone. But, once we are living a life dedicated to being a follower of Jesus Christ, wouldn’t it stand to reason that He would expect us to start participating a bit more? Yes it would. And it is in fact, a direct command Jesus gave us. (James 2:17) If we want Him to actually ‘hang out’ with us and dwell in our space, we don’t want to actively participate in something He wants no part of. (Revelation 3:16)
The Bible clearly tells us to be no part of the world. What that means is to be NO PART of what mainstream society deems ok for this moment that clearly goes against God’s word. Romans 12:2 says, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.” We pray for ‘His will to be done’. If we want His will to be done in our lives, it is our duty to transform our minds and not conform to the pattern of this world.
For some, this may only require a couple of small adjustments- for others is could require a total overhaul in our life but the reward will far outweigh anything we could ever give up! (Galatians 6:9, Psalm 37:4, Ephesians 6:8, Matthew 6:33)
We must take heart that by welcoming our Lord into EVERY aspect of our world – we will be blessed far beyond our wildest imaginations! God is good all the time and His desire is to walk with us through everything every day, so let’s do our part to set the environment and our hearts to wholeheartedly welcome Him in.
