Fully infused
Psalm 42:1 - “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God, when can I go and meet with God?”
In this scripture, the author compares the feeling in his soul to a deer panting for water. Now, I don’t know a lot about deer but I surely know what it means to be thirsty. I am a runner and I rarely carry water with me on my runs. So, what that means is at the end of 9, 10, 11 miles - I am good and thirsty! The last ½ mile, my mind is just thinking about the water waiting for me at the end. Sometimes, I am literally “panting” at that point. My desire for water consumes me completely. All I can think of is getting a drink!
And then… sweet relief, I have water in my hand. Bottle tipped up, I am gulping now. Sip by sip, I am feeling revived, restored and totally satisfied. And with that, I let out a huge sigh. Yaaaassss… Quietly I whisper, “Thank you Lord for water after a run!”
So, you may not know much about deer and maybe you're not a runner. But everyone at some point of their life has experienced thirst. Throat dry, mouth like cotton, hard to speak kind of thirst. All you can think about is getting a drink and getting it now! THAT FEELING RIGHT THERE! That is the feeling the author had for the Lord in this scripture. He was fully consumed with his desire for “the living God.”
Maybe that is a good thing for us to pause and consider. Do I “pant” for the Lord? Is my life consumed with Him? Does my soul thirst for Him?
Now at first, you may think, “I don’t have time to be consumed with anything else, my plate is FULL! God knows I love him and I am doing my best.” If that is where your mind has gone, I fear you may have missed it. Living for the Lord, desiring the Lord and thirsting for the Lord is not “time consuming” per se.
It’s an infusion, not an addition.
God wants to be fully infused into our lives. He doesn’t want to disturb you, he wants to love you and have you love him back. And oh my goodness is He ever lovable! He wants your love for Him to help you make better choices, he wants you to come to Him for advice, to bring Him into your relationships with family, friends, coworkers, neighbors, etc. (which by the way will only elevate those relationships). He wants to be the essence of the air you breathe, the thoughts you think and the words you speak!
If we are as the deer, “panting” for the Lord, everything we do will be done with Him in mind first, which will only enhance our way of life. What I know is this: the Lord will ALWAYS show up and quench our thirst. And it’s in that moment we find rest in Him. He will revive our spirit and restore our soul. He will equip us. He will provide for us. He will always love us. He will enable us. He ALWAYS will do what HE knows is best for us.
Prayer Prompt: Father God, let YOUR will be done in my life. I am “panting” for you and wholeheartedly desire to infuse you and your way into every single aspect of my life. Father, equip me to make good choices. Lord, show up and show off in my life and the lives of those around me today! Holy Spirit, you are welcome here. I’m so excited to see you move. Let my life be a living testimony to what you are capable of. Let my walk with you be righteous and inviting to others, bringing them to faith. Abba, you alone are worthy and I submit to you and your way today and everyday ahead of me. In Jesus name, AMEN!
