His Will
Matthew 7:21 - “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in Heaven.”
The first question to consider would be: Do you believe in the kingdom of heaven? If the answer is yes, then this scripture is one of many that makes it clear that the only way to enter the kingdom of heaven is to do the will of the Father. In fact, when Jesus gave us the model of what prayer should look like in Matthew 6:9-13, he specifically included “your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
What is the will of the Father? I look to the greatest command given by Jesus. A command that covers "a multitude of sins" and is repeated throughout the word. (1 Pet 4:8) In fact what I consider to be the theme of the bible is: LOVE. “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind… Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matt 22:37)
The second question you can ask yourself today is: How can I love God and people more today than I did yesterday? How can I adjust my actions to display the love of Jesus in everything that I do and say today?
I personally check in with myself and think, “If Jesus was standing right here beside me right now, would he give me a nod or a wink in response to my actions or the way I have spoken to or responded to others around me? Is the Holy Spirit comfortable dwelling in my midst?
And finally, when you do show love, go out of your way for others, hold your tongue and/or respond in kindness, and fight against the tendencies of your sinful nature, give yourself permission to pause and celebrate your achievement with the Lord. Most people are so quick to linger in the shame/guilt of a mistake but quickly overlook and even forget the small wins in their life. It’s okay to give God a prayerful ‘high five’ and thank Him for helping to shape you into a better person, one good decision at a time.
I pray that you cling to your belief in the kingdom of heaven. I pray that you celebrate your wins and be encouraged in showing love to the Lord and other people. I pray that you offer the Holy Spirit a comfortable home in your bodily temple. (1 Cor 6:19) I pray that you make Jesus your friend and lean into the strength of your Heavenly Father. I pray that you have a lovely day and a blessed life. In Jesus name... Amen.
