Layers of the Lord

Learning who God truly is, is a process and journey to say the least. He reveals himself in bits and pieces, based on your situation, willingness and spiritual maturity level at any given time. I believe the Lord has many layers, and each one I discover is even better than the last. The more I come to know him, the more I want to know! Proverbs 2:4-5 speaks about the focus and intensity that is necessary to seek the knowledge of God. It says,”...and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.

Every time I uncover another truth about God or experience another level of his compassion, I feel like I have received a priceless jewel. I call them my “nuggets of wisdom.” In this lifetime we will never come to know everything. But the process of peeling back the layers to reveal more about our Father is an awesome blessing. The more we learn about him, the more he reveals about us, which is the most interesting and rewarding journey a person could choose. And it is exactly that... a choice.

God is a gentleman. He will never force us to do anything we don’t want to do, that is the beauty of free will. He desires for us to love him, just as any father wants to be loved. He has created us, cared and provided for us, lovingly watched us grow up and grow into our own unique personalities, forgiven our mistakes and made arrangements for our future. All we have to do is step into the invitation to love him back. But we have the choice to say no.

If we choose to enter into a relationship with him, we must understand that our life will be altered forever. The ultimate reward is eternal life. The immediate reward is a deep rooted peace and joy that cannot be supplied to ourselves through material things, worldly experiences, or other people. It’s a joy so deep and unique, that it's even hard for a writer like me to explain in words. It is felt and experienced in the depth of your soul and bones. It’s positively addicting to be quite honest. Once you truly experience the Lord in your life, it’s inconceivable to consider going any other way. But we must be careful...

We are not promised a smooth road. We are not exempt from falling prey to hard times in this sinful, fallen world. The enemy wants to stifle and extinguish our relationship with God. He will come at us from many different angles to try to deter us, discourage us or frustrate us. What I know for sure is that, if we remain close to God, even during the hard times, we will maintain a level of peace that the enemy cannot touch and eventually he will give up and move on to easier prey. He is roaming about, seeking to devour anyone he can while God, on the other hand, has his arms wide open, seeking to save and love anyone who turns to him.

RUN into the arms of the Lord. When times are good, take time to know him better, learn more about him and strengthen your spiritual muscles. When times are hard, focus every moment on hanging on tight to the Lord, staying in the word and confidently knowing that he’s got you in the palm of his mighty hand.

Today, I pray over you the words found in Ephesians 1:17-19,

“I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.”

Stay encouraged!
