Mindful Mornings

Starting our morning with God is fundamental and crucial in setting the tone for our day. Before I even get out of bed, when my alarm goes off in the morning, I make it a habit to not be irritated with the fact that I have been awakened- rather to be grateful. I simply say, “Thank you God for giving me another day, another chance.”

That moment with God when my eyes open, defines how I will go on with my day- purposefully walking with God with a grateful heart. Yes, I may be comfy and still tired. Yes, I may have a lot on my “To Do” list for the day that I just want to close my eyes for just a few more moments. But I choose to start my morning showing up to my Creator and acknowledging the blessing of being alive.

Once we are up and awake (maybe after a cup of coffee lol), it is important that we carve out time for prayer. This may mean that we have to wake up just a bit earlier before everyone else wakes up, but it is SO worth it. This is a sacrifice on our part to mindfully and intentionally put Him first. Either way, this is the time to thank Him, make our requests and sit quietly in His presence. The reward is instant. It will help soothe anxiety and assist us with focus and direction for the day ahead.

These simple adjustments in how we wake up, will keep us in line with Psalm 5:3- “In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.” And what I most certainly know is that when we show up to God, He wildly shows up in our lives as well.
