One step at a time

Pause and think for just a moment about the first steps of a child. It is so scary for a parent to watch at times because we know for a fact that our child will surely fall. Over and over they fall while they learn to perfect their steps. Other times it’s hysterical, as they excitedly walk with those Frankenstein-ish steps, mouth wide open, they are SO proud of themselves (and we are so proud of them). Sometimes they wobble and other times they simple lower themselves down to just sit because they are not sure they can make it one more step. But we know they can. And they do. Inevitably, they get up and walk again. Eventually, walking doesn’t require practice, they just do it. Then it’s on to running, jumping, hopping, skipping and more.

Our walk with God can surely begin just like that. And sometimes even when we think we’ve got it, we fall down, far and hard and have to get our ‘walking legs’ back under us to go again until our confidence is such that walking with God just becomes a way of everyday life.

It is SO critically important that we remember that falling down IS a part of life. We are imperfect and will surely make mistakes, some worse than others. But we must not give up. God is always worth it! Ask Him to help you up and He will, just as any loving parent would their child. Take it slow. Don’t get ahead of yourself.

One step at a time.

One day at a time.

One prayer at a time.

God will do the rest because He loves you just that much! Have confidence because God cannot tell a lie. (Hebrews 6:18) He promises us mercy, love and forgiveness and He gives those blessings quickly and continually, if we just keep showing up. Stay in faith, friend. You’ve got this!

Psalm 37:23: The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him.
