Super Size Me
When I was younger, I used to love fast food. I remember when the super size movement became wildly popular. In fact, a movie even came out in 2004 called Super Size Me.
I thought of this movie and that movement as I pondered today’s blog post. In regards to food, we put our bodies at risk when we super size our consumption. But what about other areas of our lives? I was specifically thinking about our dream life. Do we keep our dreams confined to our human sized limited box, or do we dare to step out in faith and dream super sized, God sized dreams?
Many may get a glimmer of what a super sized dream looks like when they are children. As children, we haven’t yet set limitations on what we think we can or cannot achieve, we just dream as boldly and wildly as our imaginations will allow. Sadly however, as adults our dream life can become a shadow of what it once was, if it is even there anymore at all. Somehow, we put our dreams to rest and simply strive to survive. We figure if we are going to ask God for something, it will be for the necessities of life.
We may have moments of reaching out to achieve a goal that seems beyond our reach here and there. Yet somehow, we have managed to even limit the Lord in our mind. We often forget the magnitude of the fact that with God ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE! Peter walked on water, until he doubted. Impossible human ability? YES! But when he focused on walking towards Jesus and paired that with faith that he could do it, the impossible became possible. We must reign in our doubt and remember that it is not our power or ability but God’s that we seek. (Matthew 14:22-33, Matthew 19:26)
Again in Mark 11:22-23, Jesus tells Peter, “Have faith in God. Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”
Throwing a mountain into the sea? Surely that is impossible you may think. By your will and strength, yes it is. But with faith in God, it IS possible! I doubt any of us will ever dream about throwing mountains into the sea, but I believe Jesus purposely used an example that unbelievable and extreme so that we could understand the magnitude of what faith can do. IT CAN MOVE MOUNTAINS! How big and unreachable do your dreams seem now compared to that?
So, may we dare to approach our loving and capable Heavenly Father right now and boldly ask him to:
Super size my faith Lord!
Super size my dreams Father!
Super size my life to glorify your name and be a blessing to those around me!
Then move forward in expectation with faith that the Lord hears you and is working things out for your good. Do not doubt. Know that He is Almighty God. He created you. He loves you and he is waiting for you to super size your faith, your dreams and your life!
Stay encouraged.
