Surrounded

Psalm 33:7 - “The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.”

Luke 19:43 - “The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side.”

Being surrounded literally means for “something or someone to be all around or encircled, so as to cut off escape.” When I think about the word surrounded, I think of it in the military sense. When someone is surrounded, that is when they usually give up or give in and officially lose the battle.

As we move about every day, we are surrounded. We know that the enemy and his demons roam about seeking to devour us. We know that these “enemies” do not have any intention for our good. They seek to distract, discourage, confuse, break us down and ultimately destroy us. Their goal is for us to not see past the chaos, havoc and destruction they cause in our lives, and for us to give up, give in and surrender to them. The enemy wants us to think we have no means of escape. But we do not need to escape, we simply need to pull God in tighter so HE is surrounding us closer! He will take it from there.

Our loving Father in heaven, Yahweh, is a MUCH stronger force and he has promised to send an "angel of the Lord" to encamp around us and deliver us. But we must choose this option. The Lord will NEVER force us to choose him. He lovingly invites us. If we accept his invitation, we must live according to HIS ways. This is not a one and done kind of situation. This is a life overhaul. When we choose him, every aspect of our lives will be affected.

However, when we choose to follow God ONLY in the ways that are comfortable and convenient for us, leaving gaps and holes in our obedience, the Devil will take full advantage of this. He will seep in and before you know it, HE will be surrounding us closer. We can mutter and complain that God isn't there for us all we want, but the fact is, selective obedience is us opening up a way to let the enemy in.

One way or another, in this life, we are surrounded. We each personally have the option as to what will surround us closest. No matter the circumstances we may be facing, the Bible assures us that when we fear God, he will deliver us! This “fear” we are called to have is a healthy fear, as we would fear a parent. (In a healthy parental situation)... we don’t walk around fearing they are waiting for a moment to strike us for any mistake. However, we follow their rules and obey their guidelines because we know that there will be consequences if we don’t. We choose their way over our way, because we know they mean to help us not to harm us. And so it is with the Lord, just on a grander scale.

We can rest assured that in the hands of our God, his perfect will shall prevail. Most times, we cannot see the bigger picture at first. God’s ways are NOT our ways, so we need to become comfortable with not always knowing everything. We cannot always fully comprehend what we cannot see and this is where faith enters into the equation. We need an unshakable confidence that no matter the situation, our mighty God is right here beside us, guiding us every step of the way.

Psalm 32:7 says, “You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and SURROUND me with songs of deliverance.”

When your life feels like the enemy is surrounding you, take an obedience inventory of your life and then dare to ask God for the ears to hear the songs of deliverance that surround you today. He is protecting you from trouble if you simply hold on to His ways, His will and His timing. Let God be your hiding place and relax into the fact that the battle is already won. Simply let go and let God...
